Hello Readers!<br />
Since I came to Japan I have kind of given up writing this blog. Also I am less preocupied with beauty product related things. However this week I trained at Hombu dojo which has been my dream ever since I have started this blog. That is why I thought I would share with you my aikido journal. I am planning to write this kind of journal whenever I train at Hombu dojo or other dojos. I might not include my regular trainings in the Tsukuba aikido club as those trainings are more of a routine activity. So through this the format of this blog is changing somewhat. <br />
<br />
So here is the first journal entry.<br />

Today I decided to start an aikido
journal. The most motivating thing that made me start it is that thanks to
Uchida Sensei a visiting teacher in Tsukuba I can now go to the Hombu dojo
trainings for free any time I would like. So I took this opportunity and went
training there yesterday for the second time. The first training I took part of
in the Hombu dojo was that of Waka sensei offered for University students. I
went there with the aikidoka from the Tsukuba club. Right now I feel there is a
major difference between the training in the “home” dojo and the Hombu or other
dojo. The difference I have identified is in various things. Firstly I have
this kind of nervousness whenever in the Hombu, because it is such an important
place in aikido, it has its own special atmosphere. I could feel more of that
atmosphere yesterday. That nervousness is the self-doubting mind that questions
who are those people there, what is the sensei like, what technique will be
demonstrated. I always have that mind right before the training starts and it
returns during the training also. The other difference is that in the trainings
I have been so far it is not so laboratory like as in our “home” dojo trainings
where we break down the techniques to pieces and then put them back together.
It is more like the teacher’s technique and personality comes across and you
are expected to do whatever you thought you saw. </div>

I was messaging with my friends
Mone (Japanese girl) and Laurie (French girl) whom I met after the first Hombu
dojo training at the drinking party. Monet said that “Mori sensei’s class is
harsh, so be careful.” <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Laurie joined her
saying “I don’t recommend Mori sensei for first classes… it is rough.” I was
all set to go to a beginner’s class with Fujimaki sensei, then I asked Kakegawa
senpai from the Tsukuba club if we could go together. She said yes, but recommended
to go to Mori sensei as I passed the 3rd kyu exam. So I took her
advice. I was not particularly afraid of Mori sensei’s toughness as the teacher
with whom I started in Hungary, Pivony Attila sensei was not a mild or easy to
deal with person either. So I just relaxed into it and was excited about going.
When I entered the dojo many people were warming up and I saw Laurie there
picking up her folded hakama. I waved at her and the thought crossed my mind: “You
said you don’t go to beginner’s classes, but you just finished the beginner
keiko…strange…”The class started with the usual warm up. First technique was
some kokyuho in katatedoti then ryotedori. Mori sensei’s kokyuho seemed strong
from afar. I did not have to wait for long when he came towards the part of
tatami where I was training and threw me a few times. He corrected my uke work,
bending my elbow. I was looking at his hand as Uchida sensei advised me, he
noticed and pointed to his eyes. I looked him in the eyes and he had something fierce,
something elementary in his look while executing the techniques. Half of the
techniques he demonstrated I did not get. There was something like a morotedori
starting as ikkyo but then ending like a kaiten nage which I was not able to
do. I did something between a kokyunage and iriminage instead of the kaiten
nage as I was not sure how to position myself and where to put my hands. As my
training partner for the whole session was a young girl from Hokkaido University
who kept coming back to train with me I could not rely on watching the
technique of a senpai so just did a mix and match. It was good that I did not
feel embarrassed of not understanding. I was just telling to myself “Keep on
doing whatever it is. It is good enough.” I could not help the younger student who
was my training partner too much in all that confusion. However I was able to
show her how to do the beginning of a nikkyo in morotedori. All techniques were
from morotedori. I can remember ikkyo, nikkyo and the kaiten nage like
something which I might not have recognized properly. Probably there were some
other techniques also but before I knew it the training was over. I was
surprised as time flew by so quickly. At the end of the training I talked to a
guy who seemed American. They kept on talking loud in the dojo with his friend
and bringing on that Western casualness so much contrasting with the silent and
withdrawn air of the Japanese dojos. Turned out he was Canadian and his name
was Andrew. He had lots of colorful tattoos on his arms and chest. When I
finished changing I went on the corridor to drink water. Two men walked
backwards and a third white haired man was walking towards me. It was the
Doshu. The two man bowed to him and went away and I was standing facing him. I
looked at him and bowed also and he made a sound of surprise. Then Kakegawa
senpai showed up. After the training we went to Shinjuku, walked around, had ramen
for lunch and I decided there is nothing that I want to do more in Tokyo that
day then aikido, so I returned to the Hombu dojo in the afternoon. Kakegawa
senpai decided to go home, so it was the first time I was heading there alone.</div>

It was cold outside but only 1:30
pm when I got to Wakamatsu station. I went to the kombini to buy some Pocari
Sweat. I still had a protein bar and a cornflakes bar in my backpack and armed
with those I headed to the small park near the Hombu dojo. I felt really tired
already as I woke up at 5 a.m. to get to the 8 a.m. training. I also walked
around a lot in Lumine and in the Shinjuku area. Tried to refresh myself in the
park but by 2 pm I already felt too cold and decided to go back to the Hombu. I
entered, put down the card at the reception. The lady greeted me kindly. I
think I could have gotten away with just that but I was told by Kakegawa senpai
to say the greeting formula. I stepped back and said it loud: “Tsukuba desu.
Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.” Then I went upstairs. The building seemed empty, I
was way too early. On the 2nd floor next to the women’s changing
room, where I met the Doshu in the morning I saw there were some kind of
offices. Women’s voices were filtered through the door and then I heard Waka
sensei’s voice. I was amused by the fact that I recognized it, but it is kind
of a trademark voice. I entered the changing room but there was nobody there. I
texted around on my phone about the sitting volleyball I was to attend after
the training in the evening then I changed into the keikogi and hakama. Another
lady showed up and I was expecting a low number of attendants. I went to the
third floor dojo which was full so I was confused for a few minutes not sure if
it was still a training. But then I realized they were warming up. All this was
half an hour before the training. Lots of students from Hokkaido University who
seemed to be taking maybe all the trainings that day. As I later found out they
were to return to Hokkaido the next day. Three foreigners lined up in the back
of the dojo with cameras. I could not read anything about Sakurai sensei during
this training. The only thing is that I could not properly hold his wrist when
he asked me to be an uke. I was surprised telling myself: “I thought you had
this one covered. I thought you can grab at least.” But apparently I could not.
His writs seemed like a thick trunk that I could not grab. My fingers were too
short, my hand was too unskilled. Later he asked me to attack from shomenuchi
but he told me it looks like a yokomenuchi. Several times he asked me to attack
again and again, stopping my hand until it hit the right spot. This time he
asked us to change training partners. My first partner was a French man as I
later found out, who came to Japan only for aikido and who said he was teaching
in France “a little bit”. I forgot his name, but there was something unpleasant
in his atmosphere. Something unkind. At the beginning I thought to myself: “Great,
now you are stuck with this dude. Training in Hombu and with a foreigner…Am I
not supposed to train with Japanese?!” I was laughing at myself when at the
next technique we changed partners and I paired with a young Hokkaido student
that had that soft and pleasant atmosphere I am used to from students in my “home
dojo”. I felt really happy training with him, very balanced. Same height and
weight and there was a softness that reminded me of people training for the purpose
of learning and for repetition. We were practicing shomenuchi ikkyo. Next I
paired with a very tall and well build male student. Not the stereotypical
Japanese young man I would say so I was thinking it will be a bit of a challenge
to move him. I was even thinking I will need more muscle power, but he turned
out to be very flexible and great uke, so the experience was similar to the
previous partner. We were training yokomenuchi iriminage. I was not able to
copy the Sakurai sensei version, so I just kept doing the Uchida sensei one and
then imitated a little my training partner’s version which also seemed
different from what Sakurai sensei was showing us. Then I paired with a girl
but I totally forgot what we practiced together. Next a young boy paired with
me and I was supposed to do some kind of a kokyunage but I was totally confused
about how to do it so I just kept moving around random and doing some sort of
kaiten nage sometimes surprising even myself. Then we set down and the second
half of the room kept doing the kokyunage and they were very good at it. Then I
realized what I should have been doing. We did kokyuho at the end. Sakurai sensei
explained and showed more than Mori sensei in the morning who was just
demonstrating quickly and leaving it up to us. Sakurai sensei explained about how
to use your center and not just your arms during kokyuho. Even if I have heard
this and read about this, I still tend to be ignorant of what it really is. I
tried to push from my center. The class again ended so fast. Looked like the
Hokkaido students were not changing at all because I returned to the changing
room to find only the lady from before. She brought me my earrings which she
found in the dojo. I thanked her, told her “Otsukaresama desu” and left the
dojo with the thought of returning on Friday.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Hello Everyone!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This picture was taken in the Budoukan in Tsukuba with some kendo ladies. Since I am in Japan I have not been writing at all on my blog because I was so caught up in starting a new lifestyle. Right now I started doing some small vlog like videos on LiveNow and I am also thinking of doing some Google hangouts and documenting my thoughts and experiences through videos.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So good news is I am not gone. I will be coming up with some more content!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I recommend you to check my <a href="http://www.younow.com/Silviaikidoka" target="_blank">YouNow</a> channel. You have to be registered, but you can register quickly with your Facebook or with your twitter. I think I will organize some Google hangout also soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />See you guys!!!!</div>

I am preparing for <a href="http://beauty-and-aikido.blogspot.ro/2014/07/how-i-quit-my-job-to-go-to-japan.html" target="_blank">my travel to Japan</a> and I lit an incense tonight. As I was looking at the swirling motion of the fume coming out of it, I was inspired by its beauty to write a blog post and share some pictures with you. So I made this collage. The smoke makes such beautiful patterns that I want later on to reproduce in some of the vitreous enamel jewelry and art that I have been making. I will post about those too, soon. I created some jewelry and paintings that I will bring to me to Japan as gifts to special people I meet there. The themes I am using are from Hungarian folk art, so this way I will be able to share some of the Hungarian culture and the background I am coming from.</div>

Recently, a good friend of mine has shared with me an article written by Ellis Amdur about martial arts in the west: <i><b>Koryu Meets the West</b></i>. The article provoked a set of different reactions in me. When I started I was like...allright...another long elaboration on martial arts...let's see...huh? wait...he is making a point...oh! interesting! oh, he is so honest, oh! he is funny. Hahhaaaa laughing loud. Then a serious tone, touching words and an even more touching way of wrapping up the article. I have not read such a colorful and good article in a long time. Maybe this first read entertained me, but in the same time there are a lot of things I took away from his text.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
On this blog talk a lot about the beauty of the skin, hair, etc. In this post I would like to talk a little bit about the importance of keeping your teeth healthy. At first sight it might sound trivial. Of course you brush your teeth daily, more times a day. I also thought that it was enough and fine. But sometimes this is not enough. In my case, the dentist advised me that I should change my routine to the following steps:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><b>Brush</b></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><b>Floss</b></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><b>Mouthwash</b></li>
</ul>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Brushing should be not the usual two seconds, I know we all do it to be over it, but the more thorough and focused brushing. Make sure to reach all teeth. The flossing is important for me because there is little space between my teeth where remaining food can get stuck. The mouth water in the last step not only prevents bad breath but also offers a longer protection to the cavity and gums.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So keep on smiling, beauties!</div>

Hi Everyone!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have some happy news to share with you. I have been planning for a long time to go to Japan to study more in depth about budo. For a long time it seemed like a wild dream, but when I have made the final decision to pursue my goal and talked to the right people, things started working out. Everyone has been really helpful around me. Old teachers whom I have not talked to for more then 5 years helped me with recommendation letters. Even my boss at work wrote a nice recommendation letter so I can apply for a scholarship. So I got accepted to Tsukuba University and will study about budo and practice aikido there. I am really happy right now, and hope that things will continue to work out just right. I have about one more week at my workplace and then I am free to prepare for the trip. Will be flying to Japan in mid September. Stay tuned for more awesome stories! I will keep active on my blog and share my experiences.</div>

Hello Dear Readers! </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As you might know, after the <a href="http://beauty-and-aikido.blogspot.hu/2014/01/the-warriors-path-course-end-conclusions.html" target="_blank">Warrior's Path Course</a> that I started taking end of last year, I took up another course called The Military History of Japan. This time the only presenter was Szabó Balázs and we covered a lot of topics from Japanese warfare. The course started with talking about the origins of the Japanese, which caught my interest so I started researching a bit by myself. Then I thought why not put together a presentation with the information I have gathered and share with everyone. So I turned it into a prezi! The prezi is now here for you to watch. Enjoy and let me know in a comment what you think and whether you found it useful!</div>

Hi Blogger Friends!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have been mentioning on my blog that I love cooperating with other bloggers and having guest posts. Ella Moss, a blogger friend found me an asked me to share some thoughts about her article. So for those of you who are interested in the financial aspects of fashion industry, I would like to invite you to read <a href="http://www.money.co.uk/article/1010324-fashionable-finance-the-costs-of-trending.htm" target="_blank">her article</a>. I find it is a well documented and neatly structured review of the financial mechanisms behind the fashion industry. She covers topics related to promotion, research and creating, on stage and revivals and wraps up the article with the controversy around cheap fashion. I invite you to read her article more in depth and share your opinions about it here or on the website where she has posted it.<br />

Hi Everyone!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you are a foreigner living in Budapest, you might have difficulty in finding a dojo where the teaching goes on in English. So here is one dojo where the instructor Keni Lynch is holding the training in English. He has contacted me a while ago and I am planning to make an interview some time soon with his wife for the <a href="http://beauty-and-aikido.blogspot.de/search/?q=women+aikido&x=0&y=0" target="_blank">Women in Aikido</a> section of my blog. Her name is Marti Balla, I already talked to her on phone, she is a lovely person, so stay tuned for that. Until then, there is a great offer out here for you!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
While I was having lunch with one of my good friends last week, she told me she found a really interesting webpage where people were talking about a minimalist lifestyle. I checked <a href="http://www.theminimalists.com/" target="_blank">the minimalists</a> also and found they were making some very good points. The more I read, the more attracted I got to the idea. Some of you might remember the post about my <a href="http://beauty-and-aikido.blogspot.de/2011/06/nightstand-of-minimalist.html" target="_blank">night stand</a>.<br />
<br />
I can see a lot of beauty in simplicity and empty spaces. I have always tended towards minimalism, but of course at the same time I still have the tendency to hoard things. Many times I keep things in a drawer or cupboard and never take a look if I really need them. Sounds familiar? Like most of us I also have my fits when I go through my stuff and throw out a lot of things I don't need. Usually this is a radical and tiring whole day event. But what about doing it slowly, making a habit of looking at things this way? The <a href="http://www.theminimalists.com/game/" target="_blank">MinsGame</a> provokes you to do that. Every day, you have to throw out or give away a number of things equal to the date of the month: one item on the first, two items on the second and so on. You can also challenge your friends. I decided to start this game with my hair stylist and blogger friend, <a href="http://www.itsbellatime.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Bella</a>. Me message each other almost every day and send the picture of the things we got rid of that day.<br />
<br />
I post the stuff I am getting rid of on my <a href="https://twitter.com/Silviaikidoka" target="_blank">Twitter</a> every morning around 7 o'clock CET. I think it is a good way to start the day. There is a whole community there playing the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/MinsGame?src=hash" target="_blank">#MinsGame</a>. It's really fun to see how others progress and to encourage each other.This week is still going smooth, but I will for sure need some inspiration and determination to keep it up until the end of the month!<br />
<br />
Do you think this game is fun? Would you join? Let me know in a comment!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Hi Everyone!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Who are your enemies? You might say you have no enemies, that everyone is your friend. And I don't mean you should be paranoid about this and start seeing an enemy in everyone. But for the sake of simplicity we can call enemies anyone who takes you off balance, people with whom you dislike interacting at certain points. They are those people whom you blame for feeling bad, who ruin your day or a certain moment. In one word, you know...those bad intended guys. There is work you can do on yourself to deal this tension. Recently I have been feeling really tense in the dojo. I surprise myself many times thinking: "He is so annoying, he should stop doing that, he should just shut up." I am struggling with this a lot and realized that the problem has multiple dimensions. Comparing myself to him, disliking his attitude and personality (the little I know of it) and the list can go on. Sometimes I blame circumstances, other times I try to look at this as a necessary situation in life to point out something important that I should learn. So here is what I have been trying out. This is a forgiveness meditation, a sneaky one. You think you are doing intense work on the relationship with one or another person, but in fact a by-product of this work is that you start seeing yourself differently too, your attitude is changing. Sooner or later, the light into which these supposed enemies were put will change also.</div>

You might all remember that one of the prizes in <a href="http://beauty-and-aikido.blogspot.com/2014/01/giveaway-three-years-of-beauty-and.html" target="_blank">this year's giveaway</a> was a cowl. The happy winner of the cowl is Jamie. She got my package in the meanwhile. She liked the soap and found the book really spiritual. She even got complimented on the cowl, which made me really happy. Knitting season is already over, but I might think of some sneaky way to knit some more, or maybe even switch to crochet. One day I saw this thin elastic thread and the shop assistant told me you can knit bathing suits from that one. How awesome is that? So I will keep on creating more hand crafted beauties.</div>

There is a tool I am totally crazy about and which creates amazing presentations. It is called <a href="https://prezi.com/" target="_blank">prezi</a>, and it makes me really proud that it is a Hungarian invention. They introduced some new templates which made me think of making a <b><span style="color: #ea9999;">Beauty and Aikido</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #ea9999;"> Newspaper</span></b>. Just showing you some of the highlights that I have had on my blog. A bit of creative work, a bit of fun. Hope you enjoy the zooming!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Sponsored Post</i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This year I am having lots of special events going on. I have my ten years high-school reunion in April, my cousin's wedding in August and who knows what other special event until the end of the year. So I started browsing the internet for different dresses. If I were to check all the shops and try on all the clothes I liked I think I would totally go crazy, so online shopping is always a good option for me. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have been considering at the beginning how fancy it should be. I know it is prom season now so many lady readers of mine might be looking for a prom dress. For this occasion you want to be as fancy as possible, because it is a great and exciting event. You want to go for something really fancy for this once in a lifetime event. All eyes on you! I think it is kind of the same in case of a wedding, especially if you are the bridesmaid. Here are some dresses I would pick for these kinds of events. If you want to look like a Greek goddess this is the look I would be going for:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9V81BoVEYZSV47eg_UKGYHwYFOM9Kz-Lu6F6d0zoL85E99SeOs5GWkEai4TVEh0iMLvJs4yu5yfbWmVMnwF9IM1qL4uFQQrUS8nIJ75ctcvzF5B1L0c35iNbqvtLjtDRLtXzWo5QA2G_A/s1600/greek+godess.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9V81BoVEYZSV47eg_UKGYHwYFOM9Kz-Lu6F6d0zoL85E99SeOs5GWkEai4TVEh0iMLvJs4yu5yfbWmVMnwF9IM1qL4uFQQrUS8nIJ75ctcvzF5B1L0c35iNbqvtLjtDRLtXzWo5QA2G_A/s1600/greek+godess.jpg" height="400" width="291" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Source: JenJenHouse <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, serif; font-size: 10.909090995788574px; line-height: 22.859375px;">©</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
If you are a bridesmaid you might want to avoid white, and go for a more colorful solution. This one is really discreet and I could totally picture myself wearing it. The color transition is ombre, which is really fashionable right now.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho0KjjB98HfZfjuEBKZbXJKhe5JzNikOoh5FUIewl4a-eVZwcSCyhvdKNL3haQp2g_7Q58_ywFsjh8d85Bhlt7OxReuPvQZHC6dHSlAQ3J1-0cCW6bBjvg-lWYax_jrBUgUM_lvRhXOK58/s1600/bridesmaid_pink_ombre_style_long_dress_beauty.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho0KjjB98HfZfjuEBKZbXJKhe5JzNikOoh5FUIewl4a-eVZwcSCyhvdKNL3haQp2g_7Q58_ywFsjh8d85Bhlt7OxReuPvQZHC6dHSlAQ3J1-0cCW6bBjvg-lWYax_jrBUgUM_lvRhXOK58/s1600/bridesmaid_pink_ombre_style_long_dress_beauty.jpg" height="400" width="291" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Source: JenJenHouse <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Arial, serif; font-size: 10.909090995788574px; line-height: 22.859375px;">©</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The next one is an intense royal blue color. What I like about this is the overlapping on the bust and the flattering form it gives to the silhouette.<br />

On the other hand for a 10 year reunion, you want to show another side of you. In my case, I want to show more like sense of personal style. Hopefully, it is in fact about you that people will want to know, you will have many fun discussions with old friends whom for some reason or other you have not seen for years (Facebook stalking not included). So for such an event my pick would still be a long dress, but more personalized style. Still princessy, but a pastel mild champagne color. I also like the asymmetry in the tailoring and the layering on the top area which looks very flattering on the bust.<br />

Of course when you pick your dress you have to think of the dresses that fit your figure best, you should feel gorgeous in the dress. Other additional things to think of are your hair color and style, undertone of your skin (warm or cold) and last but not least your budget. The good thing about <a href="http://www.jenjenhouse.com/" target="_blank">JenJenHouse</a> is that you can filter for the desired price, occasion, silhouette, neckline, straps, sleeves and what not. So if you have a vague idea of what you would like, all this filters will come in handy in picking the ideal dress for you.</div>

Hope you found these tips useful. I am sure you will be the most gorgeous on that party!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
I have set as a goal to myself about a year ago, to always
practice with a beginner's mindset. This is particularly important when you
practice on bigger training seminars. This weekend I had the opportunity to
train on the training seminar held in Budapest by Kuribayashi Takanori, 7 dan
Hombu Shihan.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Here are three basic ideas that he emphasized:</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<ol>
<li style="text-align: left;">Never Train Automatically</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Move</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Don't Train Selfishly</li>
</ol>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #7f6000; font-size: large;">Never Train Automatically</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
You should not execute the technique automatically, just
because you learned that it should be done in a specific way. Challenge each
and every motion. Get to understand and then let go of the logic of the
movements. But for that to happen first you have to understand why and how you
step in the irmi, why and how you move your body in order to take uke’s
balance for example. On the uke side, don’t take ukemi just because you know what movement
is coming next. Wait for the tori to make you take the ukemi. Whenever I attend
such training seminars I always feel like I am a beginner. Sometimes I felt a
bit guilty of not having enough routine and stupid for not understanding how a technique works exactly. But when Kuribayashi Sensei
underlined training with a beginner's mindset as a positive trait, I gained faith in it again. One should get
rid of old habits and adapt to what is being shown there and then. Only this will
improve your technique.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #7f6000; font-size: large;">Move</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
Movement is important in aikido. Don’t be like a golf player, stiffly hitting the ball with the rocket without barely any muscle
moving. Be like a baseball player, move around, adapt. Lower your posture.
Especially for westerners who are not used to seiza, lowering their center is
something they have to consciously build into their practice. As you lower, pay
attention to move into the right point to execute the technique. Don’t get
stuck at a certain point, always move along and develop.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #7f6000;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #7f6000; font-size: large;">Don’t Train Selfishly</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
Look around, pay attention to others. Train in a way that
both of the training partners are learning something in the process.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
He made several other points also, but these are the main
ones that came into my mind. The seminar ended with the Dan examination, which
I followed with great interest. We had to sit in seiza and sometimes in agura
because this is one of the important skills of the aikidoka.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

advanced people practicing aikido. Please also check my article from last year about last year's Kuribayashi Seminar <a href="http://beauty-and-aikido.blogspot.de/2013/03/kuribayashi-shihan-aikido-seminar-march.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<o:p></o:p></div>

Spring is here and I wanted to review some spring style clothing that I got from Coco Fashion. What I picked this time is a tunic with an abstract painting of a flower. I liked the grey, black and white contrast. What I also liked is the combination of the textures. Cotton combined with the smooth silky and slightly see-through material from which the sleeves are made. The pattern on the sleeves match very well the floral pattern from the from of the tunic.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you are petite, you can wear this tunic just with leggings. In my case, I had to pear it with a short blue jean skirt and some leggings.<br />

You can browse more tunics <a href="http://www.coco-fashion.com/Tunics-c9.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>

A
native Louisianan, Levy moved back to New Orleans in 2007 when he couldn’t
shake the feeling that “the city could use some balance at a time of so much
instability.” After the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, it
seemed more pertinent than ever to bring more Aikido to the New Orleans
community, a martial art that focuses on “creating harmony out of discord.”
Hoping to be a part of its holistic recovery, Levy put into practice his
knowledge gained from Aikido teachers both in the US and abroad, having studied
for many years in California, Oklahoma, Sweden, and Japan.Living in a city

At
times misunderstood, the martial art of Aikido is “not about striking or
kicking,” Levy states, nor “does one have to be buff or male to practice it.”
In fact, Aikido is about “learning to redirect aggression, compassionately
turning destructive and violent forces into peace in both the aggressor and
[the victim],” says Levy, “and [transferring violent actions] to a place where
those forces are no longer dangerous to either party.”<o:p></o:p></div>

Aikido with male and female students of all ages and sizes. Rather than a show
of brute strength or blunt force, Aikido is “not about breaking things, but
about using your body effectively.” In fact, the varied pupils improve one
another as they interact throughout class, learning to “work with others’
personalities, emotions, and reactions, rather than avoiding them.”<o:p></o:p></div>

Transcending
physicality, Aikido aims to transform hostile thoughts into peaceful and
productive choices and actions, encouraging its followers to “think deeply
about their actions, reactions, and what kind of life [they] want to lead.”
Likening inner conflicts and personal fears to “self-attacks,” Levy finds that
Aikido strengthens more than the body, but also the mind, improving
practitioners’ sense of calm and balance, and ultimately their intra- and
interpersonal skills.<o:p></o:p></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">YAAAY! Another year, another GIVEAWAY! Thanks for following me so far. This year I want to offer a special hand made item to one of my lucky readers. I will be knitting the <a href="http://purlavenue.com/2012/03/budding-infinity-scarf-pattern-2.html" target="_blank">cowl</a> you voted for on the poll. It will be a full cowl, I am starting right now as I am posting this. The bubble pattern that you picked through the <a href="http://beauty-and-aikido.blogspot.de/2014/01/three-years-of-beauty-and-aikido-blog.html">poll voting</a> refers back to the circle symbol from aikido. The other item I am offering is a skin care one. It is a black soap that I am using on a daily basis from the famous Hungarian brand of natural products called <b><span style="color: #38761d;">Ilcsi</span></b>. I like this brand a lot because it uses only natural ingredients and makes your skin wonderful. The third item is a <b><span style="color: #38761d;">book</span></b>. Because for me and I am sure that for the readers also, aikido is not only a path to train your body, but also for training your mind. So I am offering this book in the hope that it will help the winner in his/her spiritual path also. I cannot wait to see who gets to be the winner! Hope you will have fun joining!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: x-large;">Please make sure to perform all FOUR mandatory steps in order to qualify as a winnder! THANKS! <3</span></div>

When I started the course, I wanted to do a post every week about the topics discussed. In the end the material was so dense that I decided not to do that. However I have learned a lot and have assimilated a lot of information of which you will see future posts. This post is to thank all three remarkable teachers that helped us understand budo better. Szabó Balázs did a great job in talking about the history of aikido, going into great detail. Szemerey Márton approached the topic from a linguistic point of view and helped us understand some of the core martial arts concepts and technique names. Last but not least, Abe Tetsushi Sensei highlighted some of the most important budo terms and tried to convey to us some of the Japanese spirituality. All three presenters are really charismatic and great in the topics they presented. I really hope there will be a second part of this course. Now I am sitting down to finish up my paper which will be the evaluation of what I have learned on this course.</div>

Fuji<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Hi Everyone!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Back with the <i><b><span style="color: #76a5af;">Knitting for Friends</span></b></i> series. This time my knitting traveled all the way to Japan! A friend of mine was travelling to China and Japan and I asked her to pass on this little surprise to Hiro. In fact this friend of mine who was delivering the gift will also feature soon on my blog wearing another knit item that I made specially for her.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So here is Hiro, wearing the cowl I made. If you liked the cowl, you can find the free pattern <a href="http://norththirty-fourth.blogspot.hu/2010/11/gap-cowl-scarf-pattern.html">here</a>.</div>

<b>A few fun facts about Hiro and some of his pictures</b></h3>
<div style="text-align: left;">
He is a teacher and <a href="http://www.feelosopherspath.org/">feelosopher</a>. In case you wonder what the letter is, the way he likes to put it the following: <i>making a difference in kids' life by awakening their excellence</i>. He is also a great photographer, so I decided I would share a few of his other pictures with you!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Sit back and relax. The first one has become the wallpaper on my phone because I loved it so much, then I realized it also has a calming effect on me. The light play and the whole picture is gorgeous.</div>

<br />The Aikido division of the Budo club Dillingen e.V. is practicing Aikido accordingly to the principles and techniques of Nishio Sensei. The training courses are led by Kazuo Sato (4. Dan Aikido and 3. Dan Toho). Kazuo Sato met Nishio Sensei already in 1993 and was supporting him as translator during one of his seminars in Saarbrücken. Since 1999 Shishiya Sensei is the official representative and follower of Nishio Sensei in Germany. Shishiya was already well established and popular as assistant of Nishio Sensei, today he is continuing whose work and ideas. For the further establishment of the evolved principles of Nishio Sensei in Germany, Kazuo Sato founded in 2001 on recommendation of Nishio Sensei his own federation: the “Deutsche Aikido Renmei e.V.”. Therefore, Aikido dojo Dillingen became headquarter of the federation. Since the death of Nishio Sensei in 2005, Shishiya Sensei is visiting Germany and our dojo frequently to perform Aikido seminars and to teach the style of Nishio Sensei.</div>

Shishiya Sensei demonstrates in his seminars the close relationship between the sword- and stick-techniques and the “empty-handed” forms of Aikido. Furthermore he is teaching Toho, which is a special form of Iaido developed by Nishio Sensei. The movements in Aikido also pointed-out by practicing the ´ken non tebiki´ or ´jo no tebiki´ forms (“ken and jo guide the movement”). Shishiya Sensei is paying a special attention to the attitude of the mind of Tori and advices consistently that Aikido is a forgiving martial art (“Yurusu Budo”, after the book of Nishio Sensei and Shishiya Sensei). Shishiya Sensei is also doing the next consequent step and modifies some of the Aikido techniques, e.g. Nikyo, Sankyo or Shiho nage, that these are free of pain for Uke, but showing the same efficiency. Even some of the sword techniques had been developed further in a way, that Uke is spared during his attack and gets several chances to think over his acting and to give up before hurting him. The sword is used only to control the movements of an aggressor, but not to hurt or kill him.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Shishiya Sensei is consequently following and developing further the leading thought of Toho of the “Sword, which is not for killing but to save lives.”<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
Hi Everyone!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This winter I have been taking care of my skin in a professional way and went monthly to a cosmetician. Also I stopped buying and trying creams because I get some natural products from the cosmetician. Planning to write a longer post about those products and the treatment I am getting because it totally changed my skin for the better. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So this winter will not be about product reviews but about knitting and other hand crafted goodies. I am also planning to create something handmade for the yearly <span style="color: #a64d79;"><b>BLOG BIRTHDAY GIVEAWAY</b></span> that will happen in January as usual, so stay tuned!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now here is one of the creations I finished not long ago for a dear friend. She asked for the headband but told me she would love to have a knit rose also. Given the color of the yarn, I was able to create a cute rose for her as a surprise. The creation will reach her today. Hope she will like it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you also liked it and would like to make a similar headband, you can find the pattern <a href="http://www.picknknitpatterns.com/2011/04/adjustable-cabled-headband.html">here</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Current knitting project: <a href="http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/infinity-scarf">Infinity Scarf</a> for a dear friend.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Future knitting projects: Gloves, something special for the giveaway, another scarf</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I also made some glass jewelry the past weekend. I had loads of fun!Will post them only after Christmas because I intend to give some of the jewelry as Christmas presents to family and friends.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<h2>
Happy knitting!</h2>

<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I have been dreaming for a long time to get some theoretical
knowledge of the history of martial arts. Half a year ago I found a whole study
line and was seriously considering to apply for a 3 year BA program which was
focusing on aikido and martial arts. But it has been discontinued. Then<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><a href="http://tkbf.hu/programok/tanfolyamok/a-harcos-utja">this</a><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>opportunity came. I just saw a post
that you can win a 2 month course about martial arts. All I had to do was
answer to an easy question:<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">What is the literal meaning of Sensei?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Answer: <span style="background: white;">"person born
before another"</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;">So I just hit the right answer submitted and a
few days later, before going to bed, I was checking my e-mail with sleepy eyes. An e-mail came noticing me that I won one of the free admissions to the two month course. I was so happy, just jumping and singing!</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;">So today I am soon heading to the third Seminar. So far we discussed a lot of the historical background and I am hoping we are soon getting to the martial arts part. The main teacher is Szabó Balázs whom I have presented to you in a previous <a href="http://beauty-and-aikido.blogspot.de/2013/09/the-history-of-aikido-about-jujitsu-and.html">post</a>. I will be getting back with posts that sum up the contents of each course, so if you are interested please stay tuned!</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
I know that everyone is supposed to be their own self, but there is this Japanese chick inside of me that sometimes wants to come to the surface and be cute. So the best place for that is a Japanese cultural event, right. I was invited in the last August weekend to such an event. I had a lot of fun and tried out everything. In the big conference room there were movies, martial arts presentations, dancing and singing.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is the makeup I was wearing for the day. I was using just tinted moisturizer by L'Oreal, NYC eyelash curler and the Maybelline Rocket mascara that I totally love. On top of that some 100% pure organic blush that I love. And that was it. Oh, and I bought a set of cute bow hairpins. Two of them resemble my ombred hair I think (you can see those on the table)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I listened to presentations and I also played karuta and ate some sushi. The guy at the sushi counter asked me whether I have ever eaten any sushi...then he looked at my tee and he smiled. I said I did eat... I really became keen on karuta also, so I bought a pack of them and started learning the poems called Hyakunin Isshu. Not that I understand a lot of it, but I can read Hiragana, so that helps a lot! So beware, some posts might come about karuta! I also bought a tatami on which I will be able to play it. So excited!!!</div>

I also danced on one of those dancing video games. Then I got my manga portrait taken. It was a lot of fun! Do you think it resembles me? The portrait was done by Lainess. You can check her DevianArt profile <a href="http://lainess.deviantart.com/">here</a>. I think she is quite talented.</div>
